Cosmic Rays are high-energy particles that originate in deep space and
penetrate earth's atmosphere. They come from all directions and their
origin is not well known, but what is known about them comes from decades
of sampling them from the ground, air and in space.
Dr.
Martin Israel has been researching Cosmic Rays since 1968 using balloon
and satellite-borne instrumentation, including the balloon borne Trans-Iron
Galactic Element Recorder (TIGER) experiment in 2002 and the Cosmic
Ray Isotope Spectrometer (CRIS) on the Advanced Composition Explorer
(ACE) spacecraft, stationed at the L1 Lagrange point on the Earth-Sun
system.
